"Tested" is a word, not a proof
Almost every vendor in this space says their products are "tested". It has become background noise. The problem is that the claim, on its own, tells you nothing. Tested by whom? To what specification? And can you actually see the result, or are you being asked to take it on faith?
For anyone buying research-grade peptides, verification is the part that separates a serious supplier from a hopeful one. The good news is that real verification is not complicated, and you do not need a lab to do it. This article walks through what to look for and how to confirm a batch yourself before you commit.
In-house CoA versus independent third-party testing
A Certificate of Analysis, or CoA, is a document that reports what a lab found when it analysed a sample. It typically lists the batch or lot number, the analytical method used (often HPLC for purity), the measured purity result against a stated specification, and the date of testing.
The critical question is who produced it. There is a meaningful difference between two situations that can look identical on paper:
The distinction matters because a self-issued result carries an obvious conflict of interest. The party that profits from the sale is also the party grading the homework. An independent lab has no stake in the outcome, so its result carries far more weight.
- A vendor's in-house, self-issued CoA. The seller runs the test, or commissions it privately, and prints the certificate themselves. You are trusting the seller to report honestly on their own product.
- An independent third-party lab result. A separate laboratory, with no commercial interest in the sale, analyses the batch and issues the certificate under its own name.
Why a PDF you have to request is weak
A common pattern is the CoA that only appears when you ask for it. You email the seller, and a PDF comes back. On the surface this feels reassuring, but it has real weaknesses.
A file sent privately is easy to edit. Batch numbers, purity figures and lab names in a PDF can be changed in minutes, and you have no independent way to know whether the document you received matches anything a lab actually issued. You are also seeing only what the seller chose to send, for the batch they chose to show.
A private PDF cannot be cross-checked. There is no neutral source to compare it against. If the numbers were altered, or the certificate belongs to a different batch entirely, nothing in the file itself would reveal that.
Why a public register is the stronger standard
A public register solves the trust problem by taking the seller out of the loop. Instead of the vendor handing you a document, the testing lab publishes its results to a register that anyone can search, using a batch key or lot number printed on the product.
This flips the burden of proof. You are no longer trusting the seller's copy of a document. You are looking the result up at the source, on a page the seller does not control, and confirming for yourself that the batch exists and passed. If a vendor claims third-party testing but there is no register you can search independently, the claim is far weaker than it sounds.

- Find the batch or lot key. It is usually printed on the product label, the packaging, or listed on the product page. This is the reference number tied to the specific batch you have or are considering.
- Go to the public register. Use the verification link the supplier provides, and confirm it points to the independent lab's register rather than a page the seller controls.
- Search the key. Enter the batch or lot number exactly as printed. A genuine batch returns a matching certificate; a made-up or mismatched key returns nothing.
- Read the certificate. Confirm the batch number matches, note the testing method (commonly HPLC for purity), and check the measured purity against the stated specification and the test date.
- Cross-check the details. The batch on the certificate should match the batch on your product, and the lab named should be the independent third party, not the vendor.
The habit worth keeping
Verification only works if you actually do it, so make it a habit rather than a one-off. Check the register before you buy, and check again when a new batch arrives. It costs you a minute and removes almost all of the guesswork.
The principle is simple. Prefer results that are independent and publicly verifiable over results that are self-issued and privately shared. A supplier that publishes to a register anyone can search is inviting scrutiny, and that willingness to be checked is itself one of the strongest signals you can find.
